Notable mortgage industry additions and promotions, Nov. 6-10

LoanDepot promoted David Smith to the newly created role of vice president of national VA lending. Smith, a former sergeant in the U.S. Army, will drive the company’s national VA lending strategy and lead LoanDepot’s VA Council. Smith joined LoanDepot in 2022. His career spans more than 20 years of mortgage, real estate, sales and training roles with companies such as Prudential Real Estate, USAA, Wells Fargo and Mutual of Omaha.

Freddie Mac announced Lance Drummond as chair of its board of directors. Drummond joined the Freddie Mac board in 2015. He currently serves as chair of the board’s compensation and human capital committee. He also serves as a member of the board’s executive, audit, operations and technology committees. Drummond retired as executive vice president of operations and technology of TD Canada Trust in 2014. Prior to joining TD, Drummond was executive vice president of human resources and shared services at Fiserv Inc. from 2009 to 2011. From 2002 to 2008, he served in a number of leadership roles at Bank of America. Drummond began his career at Eastman Kodak Co., where he held a variety of positions from 1976 to 2002, including as chief operating officer from 1998 to 2002.

Lower announced the addition of Amir Syed as chief growth officer. He will focus on organizing Lower’s multichannel strategy to drive market share. His role will center around elevating existing production through coaching and bringing Lower’s “online-offline strategy” to life.

DocMagic announced the promotion of Chris Lewis to director of sales. Lewis is tasked with building on DocMagic’s sales record while also driving strategic sales initiatives for the company’s new innovations. Lewis has been a member of DocMagic’s sales team since 2016, amassing more than 25 years of industry experience.

Mortgage Machine Services appointed Crystal Stanton to manage customer success and onboarding. Stanton brings 20-plus years of customer success experience to her role, with more than a decade in the mortgage industry. She has held senior customer success positions at several mortgage providers.

Lending software company True announced that Stephen Butler has joined its executive leadership team as president and chief revenue officer. Butler will lead all aspects of the company’s sales, business development and strategic partnerships, working closely with the company’s leadership and board to drive growth.

Real Estate Connection added Morgan Barnes to the team as director of lender relations. A former professional bodybuilder in the International Federation of Bodybuilding, her background also includes owning and operating Morfit Gym and serving as department head at Lifetime Fitness.
